Troy Wangen is a Managing Director in the Unclaimed Property Practice in True Partners Consulting’s Chicago office. He has extensive experience in multi-jurisdictional unclaimed property consulting & compliance, specializing in the development of strategic defense for unclaimed property audits, including working directly with State administrators/representatives on audit issues and negotiating settlement agreements. Before joining True Partners Consulting LLC, Troy held the position of Manager for Thomson Reuters’ ONESOURCE® Unclaimed Property Group, and served in a similar role as a Senior Consultant in the Unclaimed Property Practice of Deloitte & Touche LLP.
Troy serves as the First Vice President for the 2018-2019 Board of Directors for the Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization (“UPPO”) and will serve as President in 2019 – 2020.
Troy has spoken for holder education seminars sponsored by UPPO, Lorman, the National Association of Credit Management, the Association for Financial Professionals, the Chicago Bar Association, and other professional groups, while he also is the co-author of the article “The Massachusetts Abandoned Property Law: What CPAs need to know,” SumNews, Winter 2008. Troy co-presented at the 2017 UPPO Annual Conference on, “The Missing Link: Remediation Strategies”, the 2015 UPPO Annual Conference on, “The Devil is in the Details: Books & Records in the Audit Context,” and the 2013 UPPO Holder’s Seminar on, “A Practical Approach to Audits.” Troy has also led the manufacturing industry breakout sessions at multiple UPPO conferences.
- Over 12 years experience in unclaimed property consulting and auditing, Troy has represented numerous Fortune 500 clients in the defense of unclaimed property audits performed by Kelmar, SAS, and other contract audit firms, and in the performance of comprehensive diagnostic reviews.
- Troy has extensive experience in unclaimed property consulting for both public and private clients of various sizes in numerous industries including retail, energy & utilities, manufacturing, and healthcare.
- Prior to entering public accounting, Troy gained valuable experience in state accounting with the Information Technology Department of the State of North Dakota and also served as Instructor of Accounting for the University of Mary.
