Myer Blank, Senior Manager with True Partners Consulting, took part today in a panel discussion entitled “Shrinking Cities”.  The seminar was sponsored by the Chicago Association of Realtors and hosted by DePaul University.  Mr. Blank talked about how economic changes in the real estate market are impacting tax rates and tax burden.  He also discussed ways that local municipalities can market themselves to attract development and ease tax burden.

Alderman Ameya Pawar opened up the seminar with a thought provoking discussion on how to keep Chicago growing, on creating and preserving vibrant neighborhoods, and the interrelation of education and neighborhood vitality.  Joseph Williams, Co-Chairman of Granite Companies, discussed development plans for the south and west side of Chicago.  Scott Freres, principal and co-founded of the Lakota Group, rounded out the panel and spoke on the revitalization of local towns, changing zoning to meet the new needs of communities, and rethinking the use of existing assets.
